Regrooving rubber & polyurethane rolls by PRG
Why Regroove?
Surface wear and grinding is an eventuality for all grooved rubber and polyurethane rolls. When routine
grinding makes grooves too shallow, PRG can retrace the original grooves, minimizing the waste of useable cover
and maximizing the life of the cover.
A look at regrooving...and why our approach is better:
New, grooved rubber and polyurethane rolls are typically 0.100" to 0.130" deep. Depths and spacing vary with
each manufacturer.
With regular use and grinding, all rolls wear down. Shallower grooves (approximately 0.070") don't channel off
water as effectively. Production is impeded.
With conventional regrinding and regrooving methods, the roll is ground to remove 0.070" and new grooves are recut.
0.070" of good roll cover is wasted. This wear/regrinding cycle continues, shortening roll cover life.
With the PRG process, the grooves are deepened to the original 0.120" depth and the material that would have been
ground off is saved.
Result:
- Water removal efficiency is returned to original specification level.
- More roll cover surface is saved, extending the life of the cover.
- Immediate and long-term savings of time and maintenance dollars are realized.
Extend the intervals between costly roll recoverings

Every mill maintenance professional knows that recovering grooved rubber and polyurethane rolls is an expensive
and time-consuming ordeal. Sometimes it is the only solution. But in many cases, regrooving is the cost-efficient
answer. With the PRG alternative, regrooving can be performed with a unique procedural difference proven to extend
roll cover life and save maintenance dollars.
All types of grooved rubber and polyurethane rolls can be regrooved by PRG,
returning the roll to its original operational specifications and efficiency.
With more than 35 years of experience in roll grinding and repairs . . .

PRG is the North American industry's leader in roll grinding and repairs. PRG operates plants dedicated to
